Ranking Halloween Candies

Isabella Montoya, Journalist

With Halloween right around the corner, the quest for the best candies has begun. Everyone has a favorite candy, and sometimes people bicker over which candy truly is the best. But let me make it really easy for you to decide, by ranking them.

Honorable Mentions: Laffy Taffy, Tootsie rolls, and Skittles are just ok. Don’t get me wrong, they are good, but they just don’t compare to the list. They sit at the mediocre level where I wouldn’t be thrilled if I got them, but I wouldn’t be upset.

10.M & M’s: Who doesn’t love a bunch of tiny colorful chocolates? Hear me out, they aren’t extra ordinary, but it’s good and a classic. Personally, I prefer the regular ones. Peanuts are overrated and hurt my teeth. But you have to admit, they are pretty darn good.

9.Nerds: This candy holds a very special place in my heart. I love Nerd clusters & Nerd ropes but original boxed nerds are like the older forgotten sibling. They taste amazing and I love the bright color and packaging design, but one wrong move and BAM! They go flying all over the place! It’s still a sacrifice I’m willing to make for these sweet tastes.

8.Sour Patch Kids: Ahh, what a great representation of why kids don’t need candy. These little guys are too good! I’m not a big sour person, but man, this makes me one. I feel like I can get hit by a bus and be completely fine after eating 2 packs of these. But whatever you do, don’t give them to your younger siblings or neighbors; they will turn into a gremlin and go berserk.

7.Baby Ruth: It’s Sloth, from Goonies, favorite candy bar, BABY RUTH! If you’re a chocolate-peanut combo fan, this is definitely a must have. Truthfully, they kind of get forgotten about, but that works well in my favor. I get to stock up on these underrated treats and get to savor the spectacular taste. So please, save all the Baby Ruth bars for me.

6.Crunch Bar: Who would have ever thought that chocolate and rice would create a beautiful masterpiece we know as Crunch Bar.  The candy got its name from the sweet sound you hear when you bite into it, *CRUNCH*.  We all owe Nestle a big ol’ thank you for blessing us with this delicacy.

5.Airheads: You can never go wrong with taking an airhead. With a wide range of 22 flavors, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!  The chewy taffy melts in your mouth and satisfies all your taste buds.

4.Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups: I think everyone can agree that these bad boys are one of the bests. I’m not a huge peanut butter fan, but man, Reese’s makes me fall in love with it. They are a classic that most people love; and to those few of you that don’t, what went wrong in your life to guide you to make these terrible decisions?

3.Milky-Way: Now these babies are extremely underrated. Most of the time they get overlooked and traded for a pack of sour patch kids. But just this once, take a chance and have a good’ol Milky Way. It’s filled with a fluffy mouse, with caramel layed on top, and a thin layer of milk chocolate (or occasional dark chocolate if you get Midnight Black). You receive a dose of serotonin with every bite.

2.Kit Kats: There’s nothing I love more than biting into a crunchy yet smooth-chocolatey candy.  There isn’t a single person on this planet that doesn’t like Kit Kats. With a wide range of 300 flavors scattered all over the world, They are a well-loved treat people of all ages enjoy.

1.Almond Joy: Now before I receive lots of hate, let me explain. The combination of smooth chocolate, sweet coconut flakes, and the crunch of an almond is a little piece of heaven. They are underrated and deserve to be loved as well as cherished. Sure, I may be a tad bit biased, but it’s my palate and I’ll never apologize for that. Although these are probably number 8 on most people’s lists (if not farther down the list), they will always be number 1 in my heart.
