Mountain Ridge High School’s FCCLA is a truly extraordinary association. The acronym FCCLA stands for “Family Career and Community Leaders of America.” The club essentially teaches one how to be a leader, though typically it revolves around teaching. People join FCCLA when they want to learn more about becoming future educators and compete in city, state, or even national competitions.
The club consists of many things; competitions, classes, teaching opportunities, but most importantly, they have a fantastic sense of community. This club alone was able to raise 900 pieces of clothing for the clothing drive. They often take trips to Title One schools and help out. They even play a big role in Rita’s Ice at Mountain Ridge on Thursdays. Overall, FCCLA could not be a more rewarding experience.
Throughout the club, there are plenty of opportunities to share one’s work. Oftentimes there are competitions where people can win medals for presenting lesson plans or research projects. Mountain Ridge senior and FCCLA vice president of development Teagan Cain states, “Overall FCCLA helped me form a community at times where it sometimes feels like you have none, yes it can be about Fashion, Education, or culinary depending on what your club specifies in, but above all else it’s a club about friends lifting each other up and getting each other through the walks of life.” It’s incredibly heartwarming to know how much work they put into bettering the community and to know that throughout these experiences these people are bringing more to their community, more to the schools, and to the children that need the extra help. After all, there’s nothing like watching a child’s face light up when they receive something new.
FCCLA may not receive all of the credit, but they really do a lot, and they impact their community so much. FCCLA club president, senior Lea Hughes says “Our chapter has brought on amazing opportunities and has generated such a positive impact on our community. From clothing drives to visiting Title 1 schools, we always find a way to help out in our community.” FCCLA may be small but they’re definitely mighty, and they are big on community. It is so important to take that glimpse into the FCCLA world and give them some credit for everything they’ve accomplished. From winning medals to helping out those who need it, to a tremendous amount of other things, FCCLA truly is a fascinating club and Mountain Ridge High School is incredibly lucky to have it.
