Homecoming Game

On Friday, October 17th, the Mountain Lions faced Boulder Creek in their final home game of the season. Despite the loss, the team stayed strong, had fun and pushed through to the end. Prior to the game, I had the opportunity to speak with the head coach, Andy Johnson, and a few of the players. The team was excited for the homecoming game, and Coach Johnson emphasized that this team has a lot to it, that it’s “more than just the wins and losses.” Teymur Ehtisham added that “Football teaches responsibility.” The coaches are shaping players into responsible young men who value hard work, academics, and family.

Each player mentioned their family or their teammates as their motivation and role models. They build strong bonds with each other and have fun both on and off the field. They all shared that their favorite part of the season thus far was achieving their first win against Valley Vista, adding that they also enjoyed their camp in California over the summer.
Though the season has had its ups and downs, the Mountain Lions remain hopeful and excited for the rival game against O’Connor, with a goal of making it to the playoffs. They will carry the lessons they have learned on and off the field with them throughout their lives in every aspect. The Mountain Ridge Football team is much more than just football; these players love each other and the game.
Senior Night
The homecoming game is always an emotional night. Before the game on Friday night, the football, pom, cheer, and band seniors were celebrated as each senior, accompanied by their families, walked across the field to be honored and appreciated for their commitment and hard work throughout their high school careers.

When I spoke with some of the football players, I asked about their plans after high school and how football plays a role in their plans. Lukas Baughman shared “I want to play college football, I don’t know where yet though” and Sanel Eminovic shared that he plans to focus on track. Teymur Ehtisham said “I want to study biology” and Easton McClanahan is going to prepare for college and his future career. Despite their different paths, they all intend to take everything football has taught them and carry it with them.
After the game was over, all the football seniors joined together for one last walk across the field, arms linked, soaking it all in, one last time.
