Maluma

Aileen Resendiz

In this current age of technology, media from around the world spreads faster than it ever has before. Recently, international music in particular has made a big impact in America, but one artist that most Americans have yet to hear about is Maluma. Maluma is a Colombian reggaeton – or as he prefers it be called, urbano – artist that is extremely popular in Latin America, and in most Hispanic households. His music has peaked as high as #1 on Billboard charts, however at Ridge, with only a small portion of students being Hispanic (12%), he’s rarely talked about. Maluma debuted officially with Sony Music back in 2011 with his album Magia, and has only risen since. The quick rise to fame can be attributed to not only his music, but his looks as well. Maluma’s sense of style is on-trend as he wears just about every luxury brand you can think of, and with his model-like appearance, his fan base is only expecting to grow. His latest single, Mala Mia, or My Bad, was released back in August, and peaked at #11. Now, he is currently on the Latin American branch of his world tour for his newest album F.A.M.E. Although he has already passed through Phoenix, you can keep up with him on Instagram where he posts daily for his 36.3 million followers.
