Artists That Everyone Should Pay Attention To

Although the classics like Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande are great, it’s really fun to branch out and listen to different artists that may not be as known. So here are a few awesome artists that can help you discover new genres and add some diversity to your usual rotation!

One of my favorite artists is Joe P. He is an Indie Rock artist who made his break in 2021 with his debut EP Emily Can’t Sing. Some of my favorites of this album are “Off My Mind”, “Leaves”, and “Baby Teeth”. This EP takes you through a series of emotions that you might feel after a harsh breakup. They’re also just really great songs to jam out to in the car with your best friends. Joe P encapsulates a lot of strong emotions in his music, which makes it a lot more personal to listen to. Everyone can find a piece of themselves in his lyrics.

My next personal favorite smaller artist is The Academic. The Academic is an Irish Rock band that released their first album, Tales from the Backseat, in 2018. This album consists of ten songs that all provide you with a sense of comfort. My favorite thing about The Academic is how their music brings me a sense of nostalgia. It reminds me of summer days with my friends when you don’t have any worries. My favorites off of this album are “I Feel It Too” and “Why Can’t We Be Friends?”. The Academic is a great band to listen to if you want to dive into the realm of indie rock bands. They have a plethora of songs and albums that all invoke different emotions when you listen to them.

Lastly is Alix Page. Alix is an Indie Rock artist that made her debut in 2020 with her single “Stripes”. Unlike the other two artists I’ve talked about here, Alix has a lot of calmer, more emotional songs. She’s a great singer to listen to if you have a lot of pent-up disdain towards a particular person in your life who just can’t seem to leave. Alix has opened on tour for the sensation Gracie Abrams, who opened for Taylor Swift. If you like Gracie Abrams, Olivia Rodrigo, or Lorde, Alix is a great option to listen to. Her music really has a rawness that some musicians don’t include in their lyricism. Some of my favorites from her are “Half the Story”, “June Gloom”, and “25”. These songs all capture a feeling that is hard to find in music. Alix Page is a wonderful musician and singer.

Although sometimes we as humans love to stick with what we know, it’s so much fun to branch out every once in a while. New music is a simple way to switch up parts of your life if you’re ever bored. Learning about new artists really helps you learn about yourself and what you like. Never restrict yourself to one genre or just a few different singers!  You can like anyone from Drake to Taylor Swift, to Zach Bryan. Music is all about you and allowing yourself to feel emotions in whatever way you wish to. These artists might help you try new things.
