Monday, October 13th, was our very first spirit day here at Mountain Ridge. Today’s theme was a musical band. While a lot of people didn’t dress up, many did, and you could spot a variety of different bands, varying from Stray Kids to Taylor Swift. Musical bands also varied from English to languages such as Tamil and Spanish. Most of the artists we saw, though, were Taylor Swift and bands like One Direction. When students were unable to wear a shirt with a band name on it, they got creative and wore the colors of the band. For example, a student named Shriyaa Srinivas wore the colors of her favorite band, Black Pink, because she didn’t have a shirt that had anything related to Black Pink. One student, Iha Sharma, said, “I like that music can calm you whenever something is on your mind. Music can be relaxing or fun, so it really can do anything.” Other artists we commonly saw were Harry Styles and Sabrina Carpenter.
For most people, music plays an important role in their lives, whether it is just for entertainment or if it’s for helping them escape this world and delve into a new one. When asked why music is so important to her, Shriyaa Srinivas answers, “Music is the one way I can practically get away from everything. I am able to escape to a different story and take a peak into emotions I don’t usually feel. Music is my world especially when I don’t know who to talk to or if I don’t know how to handle my emotions I don’t usually feel. On the other hand, music also helps me focus and relax as well. It’s my paradise to unwind and be free. Music is my everything…” This student’s statement resonates with many people, and most can relate to her as well. Many can find peace and relaxation in their favorite band, as well as finding any sort of music to match your mood. Don’t forget to participate in the rest of the week and celebrate our school spirit.
