Girls Golf Wins Tournament

Chloe Merriweather

Mountain Ridge girls golf team won the Ridge Open Saturday, September 21 with 376 points.

The team met at their home course, The Legends at Arrowhead, at seven in the morning, and while the whole team came to support, five girls played in the tournament: Jacie Warfeild (10), Kaydin Warfeild (12), Lauren Gurney (11), Paige Dormal (12), and Chloe Saufley (12). Ten other schools participated in the 18 hole tournament that lasted six hours.

The team works so well together because they are like sisters to each other. Going into the tournament, the girls were nervous, but their support for each other helped their confidence.

“One of our biggest strength as a team is our ability to encourage each other because we are so close,” said Chloe Saufley.

Chloe’s short game has been on par recently which is really helpful since she was anxious before the tournament because she had a set number of strokes in mind to get the score she wanted.

As this was the first year being the coach of girl’s golf, Gavin Tolan was very excited to see his team get first place.

The best moment of the day was finding out that the girls won the tournament because none of them expected to beat the other ten schools competing with them. They all felt great after the win, because they’ve hosted this tournament every year.

“It felt great to win the tournament because since I’m a senior, that was my last time playing in the Ridge Open,” said Saufley.

The end of the season is just around the corner, so make sure to go the see the girls’ last three matches at The Legends at Arrowhead!
