This spirit week delivered an eccentric overall theme and perhaps even more unique individual days. Tuesday’s spirit day was “Toes Out” based on the popular cereal, Cap’n Crunch. Students were left wondering what the connection between the two were, with some speculating that the Cap’n simply gives off the vibe of not wearing shoes (although he in fact does).
Despite the confusion, Ridge students participated on this day by the masses. This spirit day may be one of the simplest to dress up for, considering that most students own a pair of open toed shoes in the desert heat.
Overwhelmingly, the most popular type of footwear were Birkenstocks, whether it was the sandal or the clog kind. There were also many students wearing Rainbow flip-flops and various rubber slides.
Some people were embarrassed to show their feet, but Ridge junior Kaylee McInerney took the day in stride. McInerney says she “deeply enjoyed Toes Out Tuesday because it gives me a normalized day where I can express my passion for not wearing both socks and sneakers.”
However, some people may have taken this day a bit too seriously. Multiple students were seen roaming classrooms and hallways without any shoes on at all.
Overall, Toes Out Tuesday seemed to be a resounding success, and it would not be surprising to see this spirit day appear again in the next few years. The week will continue with the Lucky Charms themed Adam Sandler day on Wednesday.
