Over my three years at Mountain Ridge High School, the one thing that stood out to me most was the sense of never-ending community and school spirit. This week, the week leading up to our long-awaited Prom, is actually most associated with student spirit. Monday was labelled as “monochromatic day” based on the cereal Rice Krispies, and “Toes Out, Tuesday” was after Cap’n Crunch; Today, Wednesday the 15th, revolves around the cereal “Lucky Charms,” and, more importantly, dressing up as the one and only Adam Sandler. How do those things correlate? While I’m not entirely sure— it could be that Adam Sandler is just a rather lucky guy— this spirit day was particularly enjoyable for a lot of Ridge’s current students and staff.
Ryley Stinson was one of many students who participated in this spirit day, and when asked what she favours regarding school spirit week, she said, “I like how so many people participate… It’s really fun! And usually it puts everyone in a good mood, so that’s always a plus.” One thing you can always count on at Mountain Ridge is the eccentric and idiosyncratic vibe.
It’s important to be funny sometimes; it’s important to be constantly surrounded by people with good vibes and an excited personality. As Adam Sandler himself would say, “Life is too short to be serious all the time.” With school and work taking up 80% of the average student’s life, it’s good to have things you can laugh about. When the stress evidently gets to be too much, it’s important to remember that it’s just an assignment and there are things worth smiling for. If Mountain Ridge spirit weeks prove anything, it’s that.
