This spirit week’s topic, cereal, has made for a set of unique and quite interestingly themed days. Thursday’s theme was “Pajamas vs Athletics,” inspired by the common cereal mascot, Frosted Flakes’ Tony the Tiger. This theme embodies both parts of his character, being, often, depicted as a supporter of youth’s athletics while also being a mascot for a common breakfast food, something associated with pajamas. Tony the Tiger’s “Mission Tiger” has even donated four million dollars to middle school sports funding. This choice of themes created a riveting contrast between each student dressing up for the day. Some students came to school dressed fully in pajamas, some students came in athletic wear, some students even came to school wearing half of both.
The general consensus from the school seems to be that today was a hit, with many students participating. One student even went as far as to say, “I feel like my two personalities have met like yin and yang this spirit day.” Though today may have been a success, another student explained, “[they] [weren’t] that happy with the other days.” They even went as far as to suggest “the school … [surveying] the students for” a different “spirit week.” With a multitude of creative days this week, there are bound to be some misses and some hits, but today was one of the hits.
