The world is full of colors. Black, brown, green…you name it, she’s got it.
“She” being the Earth, of course.
But, for most of us, there’s the one that stands above all the rest. Perhaps you love the cool hues of cerulean blue, or the regal power of purple. Reds and oranges are fan favorites as well, conveying fiery ambition and rousing passion.
Despite being little more than a coagulation of light, color is a fantastic—and socially acceptable, if not imposed—mode of self-expression. Thus, on Monday, April 13th, Mountain Ridge kicks off Spirit Week with Monochromatic Day, where you can dress up head-to-toe in your favorite color!
Among the students possessed with a singularly-colorful vision is Sahra Shinwari, a junior. Donning all-black attire, Shinwari reportedly feels “really cool and awesome,” citing that she
“looks so perfect and amazing.” This confidence buoyed enthusiastic participation in her English Literature class, as she learned the ins-and-outs of a quaint story wherein man becomes insect. “The spirit day really helped me learn about Metamorphosis better,” she reaffirms.
Señora Romero, a Spanish teacher at Ridge, is likewise thrilled to participate in the event. “Monochromatic Day? I thought it was amazing. For the first time ever, I knew what to wear.” Like Shinwari, Romero too wore all black, as was a popular choice perhaps made not purely out of necessity. “Yo seleccioné el color negro,” she says—or rather, ella dice.
Another student aiming to show his school spirit is junior Parker Schultz. Schultz believes that Monochromatic Day could become a blueprint for future spirit days, citing heightened participation in meeting the simple objective. However, Schultz also came under fire, as some questioned whether his brown outfit was truly monochromatic upon closer examination. Nevertheless, Schultz defends his choices: “If I didn’t participate? Because I didn’t have the right clothes. But, fortunately, I did have the right clothes, so I could participate.”
Monochromatic Day is based on Rice Krispies, fitting into this Spirit Week’s cereal theme. Following Monochromatic Day is “Toes-Out Tuesday,” centered around transcendent cereal mascot Captain Crunch. Students will also have the opportunity to dress like Adam Sandler for a Wednesday based on Lucky Charms, while a Frosted Flakes-themed Thursday will offer a choice between sports attire and pajamas. Friday, per usual, will end the Spirit Week with class colors and an assembly, although cereal exerts greater influence over the choice this year.
All in all, students and teachers alike are ready to celebrate Prom with this Spirit Week. Go Ridge!
