Mountain Ridge High School is back at it again as they finish rehearsing for their Spring Musical, Big Fish! Big Fish follows the story of a dying father, Edward Bloom, who tells the most magnificent stories you’ll ever hear, and his relationship with his estranged son, Will, who just wants to find out the truth before it is too late. The story blends both present-day reality and Edward’s mythical adventures from the past. Mermaids, giants, witches and so many more exhilarating characters all make an appearance in this heartwarming story. From a witch predicting the future in a swamp, to a marvelous dance number in a circus, and even an epic love story in a daffodil field, this show is guaranteed to forever hold a special place in all of our hearts.

As MRHS brings this story to the stage for the second time in its lengthy career, each member of the cast and crew are on the edge of their seats wondering how their hard work will pay off in the long run. With the short time they’ve been given to put on this production-only two months-they have been “working hard, and time is flying by” (Closer to Her song from Big Fish) as they prepare to put on an incredible production, as always.
This special show will begin on March 5, 2026, and close on March 14, 2026. Big Fish’s additional dates are the 6th, 7th, 12th, and 13th, all at 7 p.m each night. Tickets are $10.00 each on GoFan, and you are guaranteed to get what you pay for with epic dance numbers, and thrilling harmonies. Though if you want a snack or a soda, bring a couple of extra dollars for treats during intermission.

Starring senior, Calvin Corey as Edward Bloom, and junior, David Castro as Will Bloom, this production of Big Fish will be incredible simply from looking at their dynamics on the stage. They have perfectly portrayed the complicated, yet deeply loving father/son relationship that this show needs. Sophomore, Reagan Little will also step into the shoes of a very important role as Sandra Templeton. Sandra is the beautiful, gentle, love of Edward’s life, and mother of Will. Alongside Edward’s wife, is Will’s wife Josephine Bloom (played by senior, Zoe Martin), who brings warmth and perspective, helping patch the holes between this father and son relationship. Together, this leading cast brings depth and authenticity to a story that is both larger than life and sincerely human.
At its core, Big Fish is more than just a bunch of silly stories. It explores the friendships and romances you build throughout a lifetime, and it teaches us to never take it for granted. This show invites audiences to look beyond the tall tales and see the love inside them. As our school brings this story to life once again, it offers a reminder that sometimes the truth isn’t found in the facts–but in the feeling a story leaves behind.
